"The best way to reawaken interest in and attraction for Europe is by discovering by oneself the emotional and cultural diversity of Europe": Hans Winkler, Austrian State Secretary, presented in Brussels the "Europe cafés", an initiative of the Austrian chairmanship and the EU Institute of Regions, for spreading the arts, literatures and the many cultural forms of the continent. The Europe cafés will be available in the capitals of the 25 EU member states and in those of Romania and Bulgaria on May 9th, the Feast of the EU. "The Austrian chairmanship and the Institute of Regions intend adds Winkler to deepen dialogue with the citizens, by creating an open space for debate. The Europe Café offers a chance of achieving this goal in all EU capitals. As well as EU politics, directives and regulations, there is also an emotional and cultural side to Europe". Some writers and celebrities have been called for the occasion to write texts about the "faces" of Europe, that will provide food for though to young people in the Europe Cafés on May 9th: the list of celebrities includes Vaclav Havel (Czech Republic), Eva Demski (Germany), Timothy Garton Ash (United Kingdom), Jan Baeke (Netherlands). Such texts will be collected in a book. The first European daily paper, "The Europe Journal", in English and German, will be presented in Brussels on May 9th.
