” “”Promoting the knowledge and exploration of issues associated with children’s rights” is the goal of the competition “The European Union and children’s rights”, promoted by the EU and open to young people aged 10 to 18 from the 25 EU member states. It is about creating a poster with a logo, illustrating the idea of the protection, respect and promotion of children’s rights within the European Community. Entrants, which will be divided into two age groups (aged 10-14 and 15-18), must form teams of at least 4 young people and one adult. Each group, after discussing some fundamental issues (which may include the right to freely express one’s opinions, the right to have one’s interests protected at all times, the right to keep direct contact with both parents), will have to elaborate on them creatively to develop the poster and the logo. The winning teams will be invited to Brussels around May 18th 2006 by deputy president Franco Frattini for the award-giving ceremony and a tour of the EU institutions. The winning posters will be displayed on the websites of the head-offices of the European Commission and used for information campaigns of the Commission for Actions in Favour of Children Rights. The deadline for sending the entries is Monday 10th April 2006, while the deadline for sending the posters is Thursday 20th April 2006. Regulations and entry form available on the website: www.eurogiovane.com.
