BENEDICT XVI: "THE CHURCH OF LOVE IS ALSO THE CHURCH OF TRUTH" (2)

"There’s no voice in the New Testament – this is one of the highlights of the Pope’s today’s catechesis – that speaks louder, to show the reality and the duty of fraternal love amidst Christians; but the same voice is addressed with drastic sternness to the opponents that were members of the community and now are no longer". Making reference to the life of the first Christian communities, Benedict XVI recalled that "the Church of love is also the Church of truth, in the sense of faithfulness to the Gospel entrusted by the Lord Jesus Christ to his people". "The community of disciples is well aware of the ordeal, consisting mostly of contrasts about the truths of faith, with the ensuing rifts of communion", went on the Pope, as he mentioned that, amidst the first Christians, "discord arose since the very start". "Christian fraternity comes from being made children of the same Father by the Spirit of truth", warned the Holy Father, "but the family of the children of God, in order to live in unity and peace, need someone to guard it in truth and guide it with wise and authoritative judgement: this is what makes the office of the Apostles".
