BENEDICT XVI: "THE CHURCH OF LOVE IS ALSO THE CHURCH OF TRUTH"

"The Church of love is also the Church of truth", and when there is "the risk of losing one’s faith" there is "a duty by those who believe in the Church of love and want to live in it, to break their communion with those who have strayed from the doctrine that saves". This was said by the Pope, who, in the traditional general audience, dwelt on "the Christians’ duty of fraternal love" and the "gift of communion" which "is guarded and promoted in particular by the apostolic function, which in turn is a gift for the whole community". "The Apostles and their successors – said Benedict XVI – are the guardians and the authoritative witnesses of the entrusting of the truth to the Church, just like the ministers of the love revealed and given by the Lord Jesus Christ. In this respect, theirs is also an office of love: and the love they live and promote is inseparable from the truth they guard and hand out". "Truth and love – highlighted the Pope – are two sides of the same gift, which comes from God and which through the apostolic function is guarded in the Church and reaches us down to the present time! Partly through the service of the Apostles and their successors, the love of God the Trinity reaches us to communicate the truth that sets us free".(to be continued)
