The Mixed State-Church Commission for Education held a meeting in Madrid yesterday about the drafts of the Royal Decrees that govern the teaching of Catholic religion and the working regime of religion teachers. "An effort has been made to adapt as much as possible the development of the Organic Law of Education (Loe) rejected in the past by the Bishops Conference to the rights and obligations of all parties concerned", comments a note from the Spanish Bishops Conference. Although "the efforts made in the regulatory area are appreciated", reads the note, "fundamental difficulties remain, which could not be overcome". The Bishops Conference had already given its opinion on the Loe back then, which "does not appropriately meets the covenants of the Agreements between the Holy See and the Spanish State", denounce the Bishops. In their opinion, this law questions "the constitutional right of religious freedom for Catholics". The Bishops Conference announced that it will reveal its "detailed assessment of these topics as soon as the Government passes the laws, which can be accurately studied by the Executive Committee".” ” ” ” ” “
