EUROPEAN CHURCHES: THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BISHOPS’ CONFERENCES OF SOUTH-EASTERN EUROPE DUE IN CORFU

The presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences of South-East Europe will meet in Corfu (Greece) for the sixth time, and will be accompanied by experts. Six are the Bishops’ Conferences due to take part in the meeting: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and the International Bishops’ Conference of Saint Cyril and Metodius (Serbia and Montenegro – Macedonia). These are "all nations – reads a release from the European Council of Bishops Conferences (Ccee) which is the promoter of the event – that share the fact of being traditionally mainly Orthodox or Muslim". The meeting will also be attended by the Bishops of the Greek Bishops’ Conference and representatives of the Holy See and the Commission of the EU Episcopates (Comece). The meeting will be opened by a report from mgr. Franghískos Papamanólis, president of the Greek Bishops’ Conference, about "Christianity and the Church of Greece". Saturday 4th March, the meeting will be focussed entirely on migration. Every president will illustrate the situation, the problems and the pastoral initiatives relating to migration in their countries. In the afternoon, the participants wil go on a pilgrimage to the sanctuary of San Spiriton, where they will meet the Orthodox metropolitan bishop, His Eminence Nektarios, and the Mayor of Corfu. The meeting will end on Sunday, 5th March.
