"What’s a European homeland? And is it true that there’s a Europe of people and a Europe of institutions? Do we believe in Europe?": three recurring questions that concern, especially at such a dead end, continental integration. 25 intellectuals and opinion-makers, from as many different countries, will try to answer these and more questions at a meeting that will be held in Rome next Saturday, 25th February, sponsored by the European Commission under the patronage of the embassies of the EU member states. The name of the meeting is: "Europe at the test of consensus". After yesterday’s opening, the Sala Borsa of Adrian’s Temple will play host to Jean-Marc Ferry (France), Anne Knudsen (Denmark), Tom Reisen (Luxembourg), Joyce Roodnat (Netherlands), Kamiel Vanhole (Belgium), Yuri Andruchowytsch (Ukraine), Lòrànd Hegyi (Hungary), Viivi Luik (Estonia), Arne Ruth (Sweden), Polly Toynbee (United Kingdom). Reports will be submitted by lecturers, artists and experts about: The Europe of the nations and the Europe of the cities; Before the crisis, what are the prospects for the EU?; What homeland, and for whom?; Why does England hate Europe?; Are we aware of being European?; The EU in the age of the American empire (for information, www.europa.eu.int/italia).
