“The chair of the bishop of Rome is" not just "his service to the Roman community but his mission of guiding God’s people”. This was stated this morning by Benedict XVI, during the catechesis of the general audience in the Aula Paolo VI, on the occasion of today’s liturgical Feast of Saint Peter’s Chair. “Celebrating Saint Peter’s Chair went on the Pope therefore means giving it a powerful spiritual meaning and finding in it a privileged sign of the love of God, the good and eternal shepherd, who wants to gather all His Church and guide it along the way to Salvation “.
