One million job offers all over the European Union: it is one of the most interesting offers of the new job search website, presented today by the President of the Commission, Barroso, during the conference for the opening of the European Year of Professional Mobility. The commissioner for employment and social affairs, Vladimír pidla, explained that 2006 will be inspired to “raising the awareness of and informing the citizens of the benefits of working in a different country or changing job, as well as highlighting what the EU is doing to promote professional mobility”. According to pidla, “The free flow of people is a fundamental right in the EU, which we should make the most of, as it offers the opportunity to learn, work and get new qualifications. Workers need new skills and Europe needs workers who fit in”. The Eures website (The European Job Mobility Portal, http://europa.eu.int/eures) will publish job offers from 28 countries, offering online advice from 700 labour experts all over Europe. At present, explained the EU Commission experts, “only 2% of European live in a EU country other than their native country, a rate that has not substantially changed over the last 30 years”.
