BENEDICT XVI: TO "LA CIVILTÀ CATTOLICA", LOOK FOR “NEW APPROACHES TO TODAY’S HISTORICAL SCENARIO" (2)

“In this time of ours, in which the Lord calls His Church to announce with new impetus the Gospel of Salvation – commented the Pope –, however we cannot help looking for new approaches to the historical scenario in which men and women are living today, to show them in effective ways the announcement of the Gospel. La Civiltà Cattolica therefore will not fail to keep up to date, by properly reading the signs of the time". Today, said Benedict XVI, “we see the spreading of a culture that is marked by individualistic relativism and positivist scientism; a culture then, which is basically closed to God and to His moral rule, even if it not always biased against Christianity. It is a great effort, therefore, the one that the Catholics are called to make to promote dialogue with today’s culture and open it up to the perennial values of Trascendence”. On the other hand, highlighted the Pope, the "many signs of hope, the fruit of the action of the Spirit through history”, such as “a new awareness of religious values”, “new attention to the Holy Writs”, “much more respect of human rights than in the recent past”, “the will to interact with the other religions". In particular, the "faith in Jesus – ended the Pope – can help many understand the meaning of life and the human adventure, offering them those points of reference that are so often missing in such a frenzied and bewildered world”.
