The humanitarian situation in the Territories remains serious and could get even worse if the current and future humanitarian aids to development were to be stopped. The alarm comes from the International development aid agencies working in the Palestinian Territories, which in a release issued today inform that "while the international community responds to the results of the recent Palestinian elections, 60% of the population of the Territories live below the poverty threshold. The humanitarian needs of the population and children have not changed after the elections", which saw the triumph of Hamas’s fundamentalists. Hence the appeal to the international community and to the donor countries, to "keep helping Palestinians by providing the required assistance". The appeal is signed by over thirty lay and religious associations and bodies, including the Caritas of Jerusalem and several charity agencies of the Orthodox and Protestant Churches.
