SIREUROPA: MGR. VERES (HUNGARY), THE EU RULED BY AN “ANTI-CHRISTIAN MINORITY”?

” ““In Hungary, Christians often feel as if an anti-Christian minority ruled over the EU legislation and governance. Well, maybe our weak testimony may have helped”. This was written by the secretary general of the Magyar Bishops Conference, mgr. András Veres, in a release that opens the issue of SirEuropa, online from tonight at: old.agensir.it (also available in English, at Sir’s daily news). As he took the stock one and a half year after Hungary’s accession to the EU, mgr. Veres noted that in the country “the number of disappointed people has increased” because “the government had not appropriately informed them” and because the “conditions of such accession had never been enforced before”. More generally, he highlighted, “that spiritual communion that could create common values for the European peoples is still missing” and a “community with no values cannot be either erected or maintained”.
Yet, notices mgr. Veres, “the voluntary union of free countries” is an opportunity “for peoples to get stronger in their cultural heritage. This is the only way to grow and live together in peace. So – he concludes – the solidarity principle should be more widely spread, and any ambition to hegemony should be avoided”. This issue of SirEuropa includes a review of the background of adults asking to be baptised.
