ROMAN PRIEST MURDERED IN TURKEY: MGR. FRANCESCHINI (TURKISH BISHOPS), "MURDERED TO CREATE A CLIMATE OF DESTABILISATION IN THE COUNTRY"(2)

According to the archbishop, “it’s not an easy case to solve” but the feeling is that "there’s not just a young man behind his murder but something organised. So, not just one person but someone who wanted to create a climate of destabilisation in the country". "We cannot be sure of that and we have no ready proofs, but we think it may have been like that because the situation in Turkey right now was quiet, we were trying to communicate at all costs”. Why murdering father Andrea, of all men? “The death of father Andrea – replies the bishop – was an execution for no reason and with no trial. But extremism is either groundless or lays out its plans cold-bloodedly provided it gets to play havoc”. The archbishop tries to give some explanation: “There’s a part of the population that maybe fears the accession to the EU. But there’s a majority that wish, although with some difficulty, to join the EU. And, sadly, this fight will have its victims and its bloodshed. Father Andrea had nothing to do with this matter. Because he was a man who spoke of God and did not speak of Europe. He spoke of possible dialogue. We keep believing, with him, that dialogue is possible because Muslims and Christians worship the only God. Although with different proposals and different radicalisations, we are all people who plan their lives around God’s law”.
