THE POPE AT AUDIENCE: APPEAL TO ITALIAN JAIL DIRECTORS, "RESPECT ETHIC AND CIVIL RULES"

An appeal to the jail world to respect "ethic and civil rules". It was made by Benedict XVI this morning as he greeted, during his Wednesday audience, the directors of the Italian Penitentiary System. "Your presence – said the Holy Father – offers me the opportunity of calling both individuals and the whole of society to respect the ethic and civil rules that are the foundations of human coexistence". Then, as he greeted the young people attending the general audience, the Pope pointed out to them the figure of San Giovanni Bosco, whose liturgical commemoration was celebrated yesterday. "Look to him, dear boys and girls – he said – as to a real paragon of life and holiness". Today, the general audience took place in the Aula Paolo VI before 8 thousand pilgrims.
