THE "COR UNUM" MEETING: MGR. CORDES SPEAKS OF THE POPE’S ENCYCLICAL AND REVEALS THAT "JOHN PAUL II WAS THINKING OF ANOTHER ENCYCLICAL ABOUT CHARITY"

"The subject addressed by the Pope in his first Encyclical – which will be officially presented on Wednesday January 25th – is unexpected and amazing. It speaks not just to all of us active members of the Church, but it also means to reach all those who are outside it. Once again, Benedict XVI proves to be a shepherd, aware of the wishes of human beings". This was claimed this morning by archbishop Josef Cordes, president of the Papal Council "Cor Unum", in his introductory address to the meeting promoted by the Papal Council, about "… Ma di tutte più grande è la carità" (…but greatest of all is charity) (today and tomorrow in the Aula Nuova del Sinodo, Vatican).” “The meeting is being attended by over 200 cardinals, archbishops and delegates from the Bishops Conferences of the world, ambassadors, managers of International Relief and Aid Agencies of the international and national Caritas branches, non-governmental organisations and universities.” “"A Church that speaks of love – said mgr. Cordes – overcomes all obstacles, most of which are impassable. The Church itself is sometimes viewed like a blind man who speaks of colours. This prejudice must be overcome". (to be continued)
