A 40-page brochure with spiritual passages, meditations, prayers and blessings for the German athletes at the next Winter Olympic Games in Turin (10-26 February) and para-Olympic Games. Those who will take part in the Olympic Games in Turin will find it in their bags, which are being delivered over these days, with their sports equipment. The brochure, with the title "Thanks God there’s sport!”, was published on January 19th by the Church and Sports Workgroup of the German Evangelical Church (Ekd) and the Sports Manager of the German Bishops Conference. “Sport is worth praying. And we will pray”, stated the Olympic chaplains of the two Churches, Thomas Weber and Hans-Gerd Schütt, as well as the woman chaplain for para-Olympics, Claudia Rudolff. “Faith is so important that no area of life must be left out”. The brochure is targeted not only to the athletes but also to the trainers and team members, "so that they will find some time for peace and relaxation despite the physical and psychological stress of the Games". The Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church had published the last ecumenical brochure for the Olympic Games of 1994.
