"Showing the new Europeans, that is, the ten countries that have joined the EU on May 1st 2004: Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia". This is the purpose of the exhibition named "Euro Visions. The new Europeans, as seen by the Magnum photographers", which has travelled from Paris to Milan’s Triennial Exhibition where it will stay until February 12th. "Ten photographers from the Magnum agency have chosen to explore a country each, with a personal motivation and approach – explained the organisers, Diane Dufour and Quentin Bajac -. The rules were simple: instead of a deceptive and useless portrait of a country, the photographers were asked to provide their own personal experience. For such exploration, they could use, as well as photography, also films, videos, written notes, oral comments". After stopping at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, "the exhibition, conceived as a moving exhibition, will land in Milan, from where it will move on to Budapest and then to other European cities, ending in Brussels in March 2007", on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the European Community (EC). According to the organisers, the artists show "from northern to southern Europe, a rapidly-changing area. The distinctive traits of each country tend to blur into more global lifestyles and customs". The initiative is under the patronage of the President of the European parliament, Josep Borrell, and the President of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
