BENEDICT XVI: TO THE CATHOLICS OF LITHUANIA, "A POWERFUL AND MATURE TESTIMONY OF HUMAN AND CHRISTIAN VALUES" (2)

” “The "newly-found freedom, along with the new challenges for the Church", have brought about the need of reorganising the Church in the Baltic country, writes the Pope to mgr. Sigitas Tamkevièius, metropolitan archbishop of Kaunas, "which was fulfilled by establishing the new Ecclesiastic Province of Vilnius" by the initiative of John Paul II. Benedict XVI then pointed at "the need to look at the new demands of today’s life, which require that Lithuanian Catholics too offer a powerful and mature testimony of the human and Christian values inherited from their fathers. As proven by the lessons of the past and recent history, a misuse of freedom leads to the depletion and ruin of the real face of man, who was created in God’s image". "The authenticity of Christian life – writes the Holy Father to mgr. Tamkevièius – is manifested and certified by the testimony of one’s industrious love for everyone, based on a deeply-felt certainty that God is love".” “
