The West Balkans come up again in Brussels after the recent signing of the Agreement of association between the EU and Albania and after the meeting of the 25 EU member states last week had reasserted the "community perspective" for this European region. On Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th June, there will be a meeting between the EU MPs and the national MPs of Albania, FYROM, Serbia and Montenegro: the subject will be, according to a release from the press office of the EU Parliament, "the contribution of the European Union to regional reconciliation and cooperation in the Balkans". During the week, the Assembly will prepare the plenary session planned for 3rd to 6th July in Strasbourg: "The main points on the agenda include a debate with the future Finnish chair of the EU", which will take office on July 1st, some voting on the structural funds and "the report of the temporary commission on the alleged use by the CIA of some European countries for the transfer and illegal detention of prisoners". Finally, on next Thursday and Friday, the President of the Assembly, Josep Borrell, will chair a conference in Copenhagen with all the presidents of the national Parliaments of the EU member states.
