HOLY SEE: MGR. LAJOLO, THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE PAPAL COMMISSION FOR THE STATE OF VATICAN CITY AND THE GOVERNORSHIP

Mgr. Giovanni Lajolo is the new President of the Papal Commission for the State of Vatican City and President of the Governorship of the same State. He replaces card. Edmund Casimir Szoka, who resigned in accordance with Can. 354 of the Canon Law. In accepting such resignation, as stated in today’s release from the Holy See, the Pope asked card. Szoka to "keep his office until September 15th 2006, with all the powers associated with his office. On such date – September 15th 2006 – the Holy Father will appoint mgr. Giovanni Lajolo, Titular archbishop of Cesariana and Secretary of the Section for the relations with the states of the Secretariat of State, new president of the Papal Commission for the State of Vatican City and President of the Governorship of the same State".
