"Increase the resettlement of refugees in the EU countries". It is the conclusion drawn by a delegation of 6 people from the Commission for Migrants in Europe (Ccme), which is part of the Conference of European Churches (Cec) after a visit in the last few days to the Dadaab camp (Kenya) which hosts 130 thousand refugees, mostly Somalis. "The current instability and conflicts states Ccme make it impossible for them to go back to their countries. Since an improvement of the situation is hardly to be expected in the short run, the only possible solution is to resettle these refugees somewhere else. The United States are the only country that has taken a large number of refugees within its boundaries". The Ccme is asking the EU member states to do the same. "This is a matter of urgency, has to be done quickly and in a sufficient number". At present, the UN agency for refugees, Unhcr, in the Kenyan camp is currently identifying refugees with disabilities and survivors of torture and violence, who are more vulnerable to prejudices and more exposed to violence and abuse. "It is a call of humanity to take them out of the Dadaab camp", state the six Ccme delegates. A detailed report of this visit is to be presented at a final conference due in Brussels from July 3rd to 5th.
