BENEDICT XVI: THE TRUTH OF LOVE "A NECESSARY MESSAGE FOR THE MAN OF ALL TIMES"

” “"The truth of Love cannot be hushed up", not just because "it is the very essence of God", but because it is a "necessary message for the man of all times". It was stated today by the Pope, as he received in audience the members of the XI Ordinary Council of the General Secretariat of the Synod of the Bishops. "At a time like ours, marked by the increasing phenomenon of globalisation – claimed Benedict XVI – it is more and more necessary to transmit clearly and firmly to everyone the truth of God and His Gospel of salvation. The areas in which truth can be lovingly proclaimed and testified are countless: many people crave for it and cannot be left to languish in search of food". To the representatives of the Synod of the Bishops, headed by the Secretary General, mgr. Nikola Eterovic, and now busy collecting and sorting out the proposals put forward by the latest bishops’ assembly, held in the Vatican last October, the Holy Father told that "the truth of evangelical love concerns every man and all of man, and binds the shepherd to proclaim it without fear and reticence, without ever giving up to the pressures of the world". "Feeding the flock of the Lord", according to the Pope, is a “task of vigilant love which demands total devotion through to the exhaustion of one’s strengths and if needed to the sacrifice of one’s life". Especially from the Eucharist – added the Pope as he referred to the subject of the latest Synod of the Bishops – "the shepherd draws strength to exercise that special pastoral care that consists in bestowing the food of truth upon the Christian people".” “
