MIDDLE EAST: NABLUS WORN DOWN, A HUMANITARIAN CONVOY FROM CARITAS AND CHRISTIAN CHURCHES JUST ARRIVED

” “A humanitarian convoy to help 500 very needy families of Nablus, in Cisjordan. It was arranged by the Caritas of Jerusalem, the Latin patriarchate of Jerusalem, along with the Evangelical-Lutheran, the Armenian Orthodox and the Episcopalian Churches, with the assistance of the local Palestinian authorities. Food and water were delivered yesterday in Nablus, which for days has been cut off from the rest of Cisjordan by the Israeli military raids. Add to this the collapse of economy and employment. As everybody knows, the European Union stopped funding the Palestinians until a mechanism is developed to override the Hamas-led Government, which has been included in the list of terrorist parties. The total cost of the operation is 35 thousand US dollars. The municipality of Nablus added aids for another 200 families. The convoy was escorted not only by the police, but also by the religious leaders themselves, including the Latin Patriarch, Michel Sabbah, who visited the city hospital of Saint Luke and pledged to help them buy drugs. Many European branches of Caritas are working to help the Palestinians: Belgium, Ireland, England, Spain, Luxembourg, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and France.” “
