MIDDLE EAST: UNICEF ASKS FOR "HUMANITARIAN CORRIDORS" IN LEBANON TO HELP CHILDREN

Protected humanitarian corridors to give aids to children in need due to the Middle-Eastern conflict. The request has been put forward by the general manager of Unicef, Ann Veneman: "It is urgent to reach these children with emergency aids and supplies, which can make a difference between life and death". Veneman also asked to "respect the neutrality and security of all humanitarian workers", condemning the killing of the four UN Observers last Tuesday. Unicef estimates that 45% of the 700,000 evacuess are children, many of whom need drinkable water, toilets in working order and drugs. "Those who are so lucky as to survive – stated the deputy director of Unicef, Rima Salah – often have to see their beloved ones killed or injured and the places in which they have grown being destroyed. For them, these events are a source of relentless terror and anxiety. The evacuated families now have to reckon with the fear of suffering from the lack of medical care, clean water and drugs". In the meantime, Unicef announced that the first humanitarian convoy, carrying over 40 tons of children’s aids, arrived in Tyre in these hours and made an appeal to raise funds for immediate aids to children in Lebanon.
