ECUMENISM: SAE, NEGRO (KEK), “EXTENDING PARTICIPATION IN THE SIBIU CONFERENCE”

“Find again in Christ a new light for the path of reconciliation between the Christians of Europe and rediscover the gift of light that Christ’s Gospel is for Europe”: these are the goals of the process that will lead to the 3rd Ecumenical Assembly of Sibiu, as explained last night by Luca Maria Negro, secretary for communication of the European Church Conference (Kek) to the participants in the 43rd session of ecumenical education of Sae, which is in progress in Chianciano Terme until July 29th. After mentioning the first two stages of this sort of European ‘pilgrimage’ to Sibiu (the ecumenical meeting of Rome and the national preparatory meeting for Italy in Terni), Negro gave a few figures about the Assembly proper: 2100 official delegates plus 400 staff, guests and journalists; 9 forums. Negro then explained that schemes are being developed to promote a wider participation in the final weekend”. “The groups – suggested Negro – can organise their own pilgrimages, moving to nearby cities or villages and reaching Sibiu on Saturday; then, we asked the people of Sibiu to host one or two people for a night”.
