BENEDICT XVI: "THE HUMILITY TO ASK CHRIST FOR HELP" AND "GOD’S HUMBLE WAY OF WINNING"

After the appeal for peace in the Middle East, yesterday morning the Pope mentioned that Saturday July 22nd coincided with "the liturgical celebration of Saint Mary Magdalene" that Saint Luke "includes among the women who had followed Jesus after having been ‘healed of evil spirits and illnesses’". The Magdalene "would be under the Cross with Jesus’ mother and other women. She is the one who, the morning of the first day after the Saturday, would find the sepulchre empty, beside which she would stay, crying, until Jesus Resurrected would appear to her". The story of Mary of Magdala, commented the Holy Father, "reminds everyone of one fundamental truth: the disciple of Christ is he who, in the experience of human weakness, has been humble enough to ask Him for help, has been healed by Him and has begun to follow Him closely". In the afternoon, the Pope prayed again for peace, in the parish church of Saint George in Rehemes valley. "At this time when the name of God is so largely abused – he said, off the cuff – we must state that the Cross wins with love, we have to affirm the face of God who wins and brings light and reconciliation in the world"."There are still wars among Christians, Muslims and Jewish", he added, reminding everyone that "to violence, we must respond with the love that goes on until death, like that of Christ’s. This is God’s humble way of winning, not with the strongest rule but with a love that goes on until the end".
