RELIGIONS: MEETING PROMOTED BY COMUNITÀ DI SANT’EGIDIO IN ASSISI ON SEPTEMBER 4TH AND 5TH

"At a time that is affected by terrorism and wars, as well as by attempts at dialogue and reconciliation, religions play a key role in public space and in the confrontation of identities, and are even more challenged by extremist manipulations". This was stated by Comunità di Sant’Egidio, as it presented today the next world inter-religious meeting, "For a world of peace – Dialogue among religions and cultures", due in Assisi on September 4th and 5th. The meeting aims at celebrating the World Day of Prayer for Peace, which was promoted in Assisi by John Paul II in October 1986. "It was there – explain the organisers – that the journey promoted by Comunità di Sant’Egidio began; now it holds yearly international meetings about ‘Men and religions’, which have been an extraordinary opportunity for dialogue and for overcoming cultural and religious differences". The September meeting, promoted in cooperation with the Bishops Conference of the Region Umbria, will be attended by delegates from the religions of the worlds, especially delegates from all the Christians confessions of the East and West, with a high number of "border" regions, such as Israel and the Middle East, Pakistan, the Far East and the Mediterranean.
