BENEDICT XVI IN POLAND: "THE WORLD AND THE CHURCH NEED PRIEST SAINTS"

"The world and the Church need priests, priest saints". It was the appeal made by the Pope today, from Jasna Gora Sanctuary. "During your journey, and in your future sacerdotal ministry – said Benedict XVI to the candidates for priesthood – let Mary guide you ‘to learn’ Jesus! Watch him. Let him shape you. In that way, tomorrow, during your ministry, you’ll be able to show him to anybody approaching you". Then he referred to the daily life of the priest: "When you take the Eucharistic body of Christ in your hands, to feed the People of God on him, and when you assume responsibility for that part of the Mystical Body which will be entrusted to you, remember the amazement and adoration attitude which characterized the faith of Mary. In the same way as she preserved her virginal love, full of amazement, in her responsible and motherly love for Jesus, in your soul, you will also preserve the capacity of adoring and being amazed, by liturgically kneeling at the time of the consecration". From the sacerdotal ministry to the community of the believers: "Be able to recognize – it was the advice by the Pope – the signs of the presence of Christ in the People of God entrusted to you. Be attentive and susceptible to the signs of holiness which God will show you among the believers". Finally, there was a message for everybody: "Don’t be afraid of the duties and the uncertainties of the future! Don’t be afraid of missing words and don’t be afraid of coming up against rejection!
