EUROPE: FRATTINI (EU COMMISSION), “TOWARDS A STRATEGY FOR THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS”

” ““With over 2,200 entrant teams all over Europe, we have proven that the young can quickly take action in large numbers when they are submitted proposals that enable them to become more aware of their rights”. Franco Frattini, deputy president of the EU Commission, will meet in Brussels, next Wednesday and Thursday 200 young people from across the continent who took part in the contest, “The European Union and children’s rights” launched in late March whereby students aged 10 to 18 had to make up a poster about children’s rights. “The goal of the contest was to raise the young citizens’ awareness of the actions promoted by the EU in this field”. After the national selection and the prize-awarding ceremony, the first-prize winners will take part in the final ceremony, which is due on May 17th and 18th. Commissioner Frattini explained that in June the Executive Committee is going to publish a note about children’s rights, then will “launch a strategy for the promotion and protection of such rights in all of its internal and external policies”.
