” ““God availed Himself of the way of love to reveal the mystery of His Trinitarian life. In addition, the close relationship between the image of God as love and human love makes us understand that ‘the image of the monotheistic God is matched by the monogamous marriage. The marriage based on an exclusive, final love becomes the icon of God’s relationship with His people and vice versa”: it is one of the key passages of Benedict XVI’s address to the participants in this morning’s audience in the Vatican on the occasion of the Congress for the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the “John Paul II Papal Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family”. Benedict XVI went on and noted that “the communion of life and love that marriage is thus becomes a veritable good for society. Avoiding confusion with other types of unions based on a weak love is extremely pressing today. Only the rock of the total and irrevocable love between man and woman can found the building of a society that will become home to all men”. Then, the Pope spoke of the work done by the John Paul II Institute for marriage and family, “to offer reflections that show the wealth of the only truth in the plurality of cultures”.
