THE DA VINCI CODE: ENGLISH BISHOPS, "SONY SHOULD MAKE IT CLEAR IT’S A FICTIONAL WORK"

” “An opportunity for evangelisation to tell the British public the true story of Christianity and the Church, provided it is made clear it is a fictional work that in many circumstances distorts the truth. The Catholic Church of England and Wales takes position on the film “The Da Vinci Code”, due out in Britain on May 19th. A group of theologians and academicians led by Austen Ivereigh, the spokesman of the Catholic Primate of England and Wales, Cardinal Murphy O’Connor, will be there to answer the questions of the press and the British citizens and shed light on all the points in which the film and the book distort the truth. The Catholic Church had endorsed the request made by Opus Dei to Sony Corporation that the film should be preceded by an introduction, specifying it is a fictional work. But so far Sony has ignored such request. Even the Anglicans have got ready for the launch of the film: a special section of the website of the “Church of England” is open to the key questions raised by Dan Brown’s book and film, and offers suggestions on how to organise discussions on the film.” “
