” “A hug between an Albanian widow and a Serbian one in Kosovo, between Muslim and Christian women in Bosnia. A small gesture of great significance, an example of the work of reconciliation that the Caritas network is carrying on in the war zones, where the conflicts ended and now sadly forgotten have left "unhealed wounds" which risk causing new tensions. These are some of the stories and experiences told by the local Caritas workers (Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia, FYROM, Croatia, Albania) who spoke today at the workshop about "Forgotten but unsolved conflicts: the example of the Balkans", organised by the Italian Caritas, Caritas France-Secours catholique and the Movement for Peace, as part of the European Social Forum which takes place from today to May 7th in Athens, with over 600 internal events and the attendance of approximately 20,000 people from social movements, questioning themselves about peace, human rights, poverty, migration in Europe and across the world. The Forum is taking place in a quiet but almost unreal atmosphere, amidst the wind that flaps colourful banners against war and injustice and the swarm of young people hanging about hundreds of booths and rooms in the halls, in search of the right workshop.
