” “A “Peace convoy” from the Balkans is the initiative of the Caritas network that in these days is in Athens for the IV European Social Forum (after Florence in 2002, Paris in 2003 and London in 2004), which was officially opened last night in Kotzia Square with a concert, but which comes into its own today (until April 7th). Over 600 events have been planned, including workshops, meetings, seminars, 20,000 registrations and very many booths of associations, movements and other social agencies, coming together to look for a way to build “a better world”. Poverty, human rights, migration, the Romany, trafficking, peace, the Mediterranean, the environment, are just a few of the topics that are going to be debated in this open space that Christians did not want to miss, through Caritas as well as other organisations, such as the Italian Mani Tese, Beati i costruttori di pace, Libera. For instance, the Peace convoy will include about twenty delegates from the Caritas agencies of FYROM, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Albania, all people working in the regions at reconciliation and peace. They met in the different Balkan cities and gathered at Skojie on May 2nd for a meeting. Last night, they arrived in Athens to bring their contribution of testimony and experience to the workshops promoted by the Caritas network, especially the one due this afternoon about the conflicts forgotten by mass media, prompted by the example of the Balkans.
