HOLY SEE: PAPAL COUNCIL FOR CULTURE, "BEAUTY GOES BEYOND THE FILTERS OF PREJUDICE"

” “"Beauty is the medium of cross-disciplinary, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue and meeting for the third millennium. It goes beyond the filters of prejudice to reach men and women of all cultures and religions”. This is the basic assumption and the goal of the document that today inspired the work of the second day of the plenary meeting of the Papal Council for Culture, about “The via pulchritudinis, a path of evangelisation and dialogue”. In the "sea of words" in which we swim, said the US bishop William Benedict Friends, “beauty is a pause that introduces a new form of dialogue. It is an experience beyond words that touches us deep inside and opens up new horizons”. The pastoral and intercultural path of beauty moves towards "the unity of the different, in integrity”. Three are the steps of this intellectual amd mystical journey: beauty in creation, in arts, in Christ, "the most beautiful son of man’s”. Mgr. Joseph Miroslaw Zycinski, archbishop of Lublin, quoted Paul Davies, 1995 Templeton prize winner: “It is impossible for a scientist, even if an atheist, not to be amazed by the beauty, harmony, purity of nature”. Likewise, art "does not only serve an aesthetic purpose – added mgr. Mauro Piacenza, president of the Papal Comission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church – but is a means for instilling faith and for evangelisation, a sort of theological place”.” “
