The third international Jewish-Christian meeting promoted in 2004 by card. Jean-Marie Lustiger, emeritus archbishop of Paris, along with rabbi Israël Singer, CEO of the World Hebrew Congress, took place yesterday and today in New York. The event is attended by 15 French bishops and archbishops, including card. Jean-Pierre Ricard, archbishop of Bordeaux and president of the French Bishops Conference, and mgr. André Vingt-Trois, archbishop of Paris. Card. Peter Erdo, archbishop of Budapest, is also there. German, Spanish and Uruguayan bishops are the other Catholics. The New York meetings have become by now one of the most important events for dialogue between Orthodox Jewa and the highest authorities of the Catholic Church. Last year, the meeting had succeeded in implementing a number of common actions of solidarity, such as some food centres jointly run by rabbis and priests in Argentina and Brazil or Aids-treatment centres in Africa. This year, the organisers have changed the formula. This year, during the meeting, the Catholics have a chance of having religious meetings with rabbis from many US Yeshivots (rabbinical schools).
