FRANCE: THE ARCHBISHOP OF PARIS TO THE YOUNG, "WHOM DO YOU TRUST MOST"? (2)

"Now it is high time we reflected on the world we are building and played our part in a serious and democratic debate". Over these days, France is questioning itself, and the archbishop of Paris, mgr. Vingt-Trois, yesterday invited the young Catholics not to back out; referring back to the passage of the Gospel about the healing of the man born blind (Gv 9, 1-12), the archbishop highlighted that "to welcome the light of Christ, we must be able to recognise that we are not the light, and that we need to be enlightened and healed. Our world, which is ruled by mass media, is jam-packed with self-hailed experts, who can explain everything and convince people that everything had already been planned. Instead, if we really hope that man will be able to get out of its blindness, at least we must know where the light comes from". Finally, one last prompt: "My dear friends – concluded mgr. Vingt-Trois – the circumstances place us in front of a choice we cannot escape: what is the ultimate value of our life? Are we ready to trust God and risk our certainties to serve our brothers? Or do we prefer the certainty of the consumer society and the protection of our lifestyle? Nobody can set an answer to these questions. The answer must reflect your freedom and your wish to love and serve your brothers. But, if you choose freedom in Christ, I can guarantee to you that God will not let you fall and will fill you up with joy".
