EUROPE: "JUSTICE BEFORE GOD", THE SUBJECT OF THE DEUTSCHE KATHOLIKENTAG. 20 THOUSAND PEOPLE EXPECTED IN SAARBUKEN

” “"Justice before God" (Gerechtigkeit vor Gottes Ang): the topic of the ninety-sixth "Deutsche Katholikentag", a two-yearly meeting of German Catholics which this year will be held from May 24th to 28th in Saarbruken, has been taken from the Benedictus (Lc. 1,75). It will be organised by the Zdk (Central Committee of German Catholics), headed by Hans Joachim Meyer. The event, which is carried out in close cooperation with the diocese of Trier, "is expected to be attended – explain the promoters – by 20 thousand people and thousands of daily visitors". The leitmotiv of the meeting will be dealt with in many different ways, such as conferences, round tables, exhibitions, cultural events and shows about four topics: Justice, the key concept of biblical theology; Justice, a test for a deeply changing country; Justice, an assessment criterion for the new Europe; Justice, the hope of humanity. Many will be the events of international interest and those about the continental scenario: "The meaning and the European scope of the event – explains the Committee in charge of the Katholikentag – will be highlighted by the involvement of many European neighbours". Plenty of events are being prepared in the run-up to the official opening, including a forum about "liturgy and church music", a "dialogue between Jewish and Christians, one about an exchange of ideas about Muslims and Christians, a music, theatre and art workroom".
