EUROPE: THIRD INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN BUCHAREST

” “”Can culture be a factor of generational conflict or is it rather a tool to prevent it?”. This is one of the questions which the participants in the Third Intercultural Forum of the Council of Europe will be called to discuss, from tomorrow March 17th in Bucharest (Rumania) through to Saturday, March 18th. “After the forums of Sarajevo in 2003 and Troina in 2004 and a talk in Strasbourg, many culture and education experts” will deal with “the development of cultural differences between generations in the new millennium. Another point to be discussed – explains the CoE Press office in Strasbourg – will be the role that the education of the young can play in cultural understanding and the prevention of generational conflict”. In the meantime, the spring session of the Congress of local and regional powers (15-17 March) is going on at the Palais de l’Europe, the head quarters of the Organisation, founded in 1949. “The key points of the session include the new technology and cultural diversity. A report on youth and the new information technology will be dealt with, as well as the new tools for the promotion of cultural diversity in Europe”. Reference is made to the general agreement of the Council of Europe on the value of cultural heritage and the UNESCO convention on diversity of cultural expression.
