"We perfectly understand that, at this time of crisis, President Abbas has been forced to go back to his people in the Palestinian Territories". After learning of the Middle-Eastern leader’s early return, the President of the EU Parliament, Josep Borrell, met him before he left. Borrell also stated: "We firmly condemn the assault to the Jericho prison by the Israelis and the riots and bloody acts that have been committed in response to that in the Palestinian Territories". Now, Parliament, through its President, wishes "public order may be reinstated soon" and "all violence may immediately stop". So the Assembly in Strasbourg changed the agenda, which today will include several relevant items: the EU MPs will discuss, before the EU Commission and EU Council the next summit of the Heads of State and Government (23-24 March), about the Lisbon Strategy. In addition, the floor will deal with strategies for future extensions and takeovers on the domestic market, with reference to the recent Enel-Suez, UniCredit-HBV, Eon-Endesa, Mittal-Arcelor cases.
