EUROPE: 70 MILLIONS EUROPEAN CITIZENS ARE ON THE BRINK OF POVERTY

The European conference, "Social Europe. For a common socially-sustainable development project" promoted by Fondazione Ebert and Eurispes, will open tomorrow in Rome. "In Europe – reads a release that was published today by the promoters of the initiative to explain the subjects of the Conference – 70 million citizens are on the brink of poverty, 20 million are unemployed and 25% of labour have insecure jobs. These are some of the figures that show how the Euroepan labour market has reached a dead end and that the crisis has by now hit all of Europe". These are the topics on which political leaders, experts from different EU countries, delegates from the trade unions and the business world, from Italian and foreign universities, delegates from volunteer associations, will exchange ideas. "The goal of the Conference – reads the presentation – is to set up a permanent European network in order to develop and outline plans and proposals to be submitted to the most important political bodies in Europe".
