Church movements are a "key resource" for the life of the Church, provided they "humbly fit in with the life of the local churches and the diocesan and parish centres". This was written by card. Angelo Sodano to the President of the Papal Council for Laymen, mgr. Stanislaw Rylko, on the occasion of the first meeting of the church movements and the new communities in Latin America, which is being held in Bogotà (until March 12th), about "Disciples and missionaries of Christ". "The effort made to raise awareness of the baptismal commitment and the wish to live to the full the call to holiness that ensues from it is always a key contribution to the life of the Church", reads the message about the role of church movements, viewed as a "resource" to avoid "living Christianity in a shallow way" and to fight "a laicised mentality or an attitude that promotes religious indifference in many settings", including Latin America. Sodano’s message focuses on "the importance of ecclesial communion, on which the authenticity of any experience of daily life and the effectiveness of the pastoral actions depend". Finally, on behalf of the Pope, he greeted the audience and invited them to "share like brothers the wealth of one’s spirituality and experience to help strengthen Christian life in this part of the world in which the Church places so much hope".
