UNIVERSITY: MGR. MILLER, "CHRISTIAN HUMANISM AS THE BASE OF COOPERATION BETWEEN EUROPE AND AFRICA"

” “"We must boost cooperation between European and African universities so that they will enrich each other, thus helping accomplish, even on a university level, the principles of love and solidarity". This was said by the secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education, mgr. J. Michael Miller, this morning, at the preparatory meeting for the IV European Day of University Students, promoted by Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences) in conjunction with the Vicariate of Rome and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The subject: "University cooperation between Europe and Africa". "Globalisation – said Miller – has made our world smaller, European and African universities are getting closer to each other. For both of them, it is a challenge of educational solidarity, a call to share a new situation. The Church in Europe and its educational institutions as well as all its universities have a duty not to withdraw into themselves. I’d say the most effective tool is stirring a view of education based on integral Christian humanism". Unfortunately – added mgr. Miller – "cooperation does not always happen to the benefit of the African universities. Our task is to make sure the European universities, and first and foremost the Catholic ones, keep paying plenty of attention to the needs of the African ones and take more and more care of university solidarity".” “
