COUNCIL OF EUROPE: A CAMPAIGN AGAINST HOME VIOLENCE TOWARDS WOMEN

"We are all worried about the problem of home violence towards women. It is necessary to break silence and act". The denouncement is by René van der Linden, president of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe. Yesterday, in Madrid, he presided over the launch of the Council of Europe’s campaign against home violence. "It is necessary, – he said, – to carry out a series of measures, and in particular, legal measures, against this phenomenon. Taking into account the extent of the problem, it is necessary to change mentality by using the educational system in the best way, promoting good practice through the media". "I am convinced, – concluded the president, – that this campaign will encourage members of parliament to adopt some laws and other measures to foster the women’s right to live in a society with no violence".
