"Hundreds of thousands of young Lebanese, both Christian and Muslim, in Martyrs Square accompanied all together Gemayel’s body to the cathedral of Saint George’s. This is the greatest, strongest response that Lebanon could ever give after the murder of the Christian Minister". This was stated by Tanios Chahwan, Secretary General of the Young Catholics Commission of the Middle East, part of the Council of the Catholic Patriarchs of the East, as he commented the funeral of the Lebanese Christian politician. Speaking over the telephone from Beirut, Chahawan stated to SIR that "the Church will keep working to build democracy in Lebanon, by devoting itself to dialogue with the Muslim brothers as it has always happened in this land of ours".
