INDIA: CARD. POUPARD, "DIALOGUE BETWEEN RELIGIONS AND FIGHT AGAINST SOCIAL INJUSTICE"

” “India is "a challenge and an opportunity to live and proclaim faith", to practise "intercultural and inter-religious dialogue" and to fight many acts of social injustice, from the situation of the untouchables to the condition of young women: it was said today by card. Paul Poupard, president of the Papal Council for Culture, as he spoke in Goa at the meeting of the Catholic cultural centres of India (20-23 November), about: "Cultural resources to live the Christian faith in dialogue with the traditional cultures, from the perspective of the evolution of the cultures". "The evangelisation of the cultures and the enculturation of the Gospel go hand in hand – said card. Poupard -, in a mutual relation that needs unwavering wisdom" to steer clear of the risk of "syncretism or relativism". Card. Poupard invited the participants to consider "the rampant laicisation and consumerism that are also attacking the typical sense of devotion and prayer of Asians and Indians". And to pay attention to the "specific needs of the poor, the migrants, the refugees, the young and the women".” “
