THE HOLY SEE: A MEETING ABOUT THE CONSECRATED LIFE AND THE SOCIAL DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH

” “"On serving Christ’s charity towards man and the world to full extent, the religious men and women are anticipating the new humanity through their living. It is the new humanity in the light of love civilization which the social doctrine of the Church intends to encourage and promote". Those were the words spoken by Cardinal Renato R. Martino, president of the Papal Council of Justice and Peace, during the opening of today’s meeting at the Vatican. The subject of the meeting was: "Consecrated life and social doctrine: training courses". In a telegram sent to the participants (about 70), Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, announced the hope of Benedict XVI: the meeting should foster "growing and generous commitment for the promotion of the universal values of justice and solidarity, in respect of the rights of the human beings". Before the current scenarios of wars, destruction, injustice, racism and terrorism, Sister Enrica Rosanna, under-secretary of the Papal ministry, illustrated the path that lots of consecrated men and women are following every day, "even at the cost of their lives, – as recently happened with Father Andrea Santoro and Sister Leonella Sgarbati, – to become light flashes in the dark night of the peoples, floodlights generating hope".” “
