PLENARY MEETING OF CCEE: MGR. KONDRUSIEWICZ (MOSCOW), “EUROPE SUFFERING FROM SCLEROCARDIA”. THE CHURCH’S TASK IS TO “FIGHT THIS DISEASE”

” ““Europe is suffering from sclerocardia” and “the Church’s task is to fight this disease”: these are the words of the archbishop of Moscow, Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, during the sermon held yesterday October 8th in the Church of Saint Catherine’s in Saint Petersburg, at the end of the plenary meeting of Ccee. “Europe is sick – stated mgr. Kondrusiewicz – The diagnosis is sclerocardia, hardness of the heart, in front of the moral laws. The contemporary world suffers from spiritual sclerosis, and the Church’s task is to fight this disease, something which can be helped by a healthy family institution as an essential asset and a foundation of society”. “The Church as a communio – added the prelate – is a divine-human institution, a family that gathers all the peoples. The Catholic Churches of many countries of the former USSR, which are not EU members, are however gathered in the Ccee, which looks like a sign of solidarity”. According to the archbishop, “Europe does not end at the boundaries of the EU, but stretches out a far as the Urals”, and “together, we are responsible for its fate. It will have prospects when it gives up on its sclerocardia and builds its future in accordance with God’s law, first of all by taking care of the family and the defence of life. May the family become a school of humanisation of man, as mentioned by Benedict XVI”.
