As he recalle John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation "Familiaris consortio", Benedict XVI noticed that the mission of Christian married couples and parents to witness Christ and therefore love and life "is directed both within the family especially in mutual service and the raising of children and outside it: the family community is called to be a sign of God’s love for everyone". This, he added, is a mission that "the Christian family can accomplish only if it is supported by God’s grace.
