BENEDICT XVI AT ANGELUS: "THE TESTIMONY OF CHRISTIAN MARRIED COUPLES IS NEEDED" TODAY (2)

” “"Aware of the grace received – went on the Pope –, may the Christian married couples build a family open to life and able to join forces against the many and complex challenges of this time of ours. Their testimony is now particularly needed. We need families that will not let themselves be overwhelmed by the modern cultural currents inspired by hedonism and relativism, and will be ready, instead, to accomplish, with generous devotion, their mission within the Church and within society". As he recalle John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation "Familiaris consortio", Benedict XVI noticed that the mission of Christian married couples and parents to witness Christ and therefore love and life "is directed both within the family – especially in mutual service and the raising of children – and outside it: the family community is called to be a sign of God’s love for everyone". This, he added, is a mission that "the Christian family can accomplish only if it is supported by God’s grace. This is why we must pray tirelessly and persevere in the daily effort of abiding by the obligations taken on the wedding day".” “
