The mission of the Church is the continuation of Christ’s mission: to bring God’s love to everyone, by announcing it with words and with the factual testimony of love". In his message for the forthcoming World Missionary Day, the Pope wanted therefore to show that love is the "soul of the mission". Every Christian must therefore "be a missionary of Love, where Providence has placed him, with humbleness and courage, serving his neighbour with no ulterior motive and drawing from prayer the strength of joyful and industrious love". Then, the Holy Father recalled that the universal patron of the missions, along with Saint Francis Xavier, is Saint Therese of the Baby Jesus, a Carmelite virgin and Doctor of the Church, who "showed that a trustful surrender to God’s love is the ‘simple’ way to sanctity".” “
