In several cities across Hungary, peaceful protests are going on, asking for the Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány to resign. After some audio recordings had been made public on 17th September, in which the prime minister confessed he had lied to his voters, every evening thousands of people fill the square in front of Parliament, in Budapest. In Kossuth square, opposite Parliament, on September 24th an ecumenical tent has been put up for personal and common prayer, open night and day to all those who wish to "keep vigil in silence, meditate, pray, for a peaceful and fair solution to the domestic situation, for the moral renewal of the nation”. The Churches denounce the illegal riots and the violence, emphasise people’s right to peacefully campaign, by condemning the behaviour of the prime minister who had led the country to a moral crisis. Several church delegates support the protests with their presence. In several churches in the capital, especially in the city centre, and in other cities, daily prayers are held for a peaceful and fair solution to the situation.
